Geza Farago was my Great Great Uncle. I had a childhood facination with him (that has never really subsided). I thought it very exciting that I had a relative who was an artist.
Over the years I have found out more and more about his work and life by meeting other Farago relatives and visiting Hungary. His daughter Kitty lives in the US and I have corresponded with her a little. He has work in various Hungarian museums which I have visited. He worked with Czech Art Nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha. I am interested in doing some more indepth research on his life and work.
I have been doing a little research on the web about him. This is what I have found so far at http://vintagearte.com/
Faragos [sic] early career as a textile designer
is evident in this decoratively-patterned poster promoting mens and womens
fashions at Budapests then-elegant Golya department store (golya is the
Hungarian word for stork). Farago completed his painting and illustration
studies in Paris before returning home around 1905. He specialized in costume
design, working at theaters in Budapest and Vienna, and many of his paintings hang in the Hungarian National Gallery.
