This is my 'kulcha' - origami, small-ness, attention-to-detail, obsessive and 'kawaii' - some typical qualities of the Japanese. It was a way to connect with my Japanese-ness but through the making, I was surprised with how much it consumed me. I tossed and turned in my bed, dreaming about origami Irises and miniature sparrows. Was my inner Japanese-ness wrestling to take control over my western outlook and lifestyle..?

Today at Brighton Bay (Year 13 Art and Design Program where I work) there was lots of help. Kelly set me up to print the signage and cleaned up after me! Fiona, a student, took photos of the houses and Gina helped install the work. It is all in place and looking great. I just need to write a list of works.
About ten buildings have now arrived . They are all so different, here they are starting to congregate on the kitchen table. Tomorrow night is the installation. I am having thoughts about how to document the works in the installation. Then I would like to document each one separately. Contributors have been asked to contribute a statement.
Allana's house arrived this week with an email giving an example of one of those finishing off stories fellow crafters will relate to:
"I had the base all tacked on ready to sew, then was tempted to open the door. The press stud came off! (the bottom one attached to the orange fabric), so I had to unpick all the basting, and put a new fastener on, then start again. Very frustrating."
But then again the next paragraph also suggests the postives....
"I have really enjoyed this project, now I am tempted to piece together Nicholas and Xavier’s Christmas stockings that were finished in time for each of their first Christmases but never sewn together! Might even start one for Kylah then."

Julie also has made an enormous effort. I can't wait to see the detail in this house.
My cousin has made a super effort. She has a newborn, Kylah and two very active boys, Xavier and Nicholas. I can't wait to see the completed 'interactive play' house which I am sure Kylah will enjoy.
